Exciting news for capybara lovers! Two capybara babies were born at Longleat Safari Park in England. The babies haven't been named yet, and their genders are not even known. The babies' parents, Mildred and Bart, usually live with other animals - Brazilian tapirs and three maned wolves. But the babies are getting VIP treatment. Longleat Safari Park said the new babies and their mothers have settled into a special nursery area with their own pool. Capybaras are the world's largest rodents and are semi-aquatic, which means they live on land and in water. Did you know that capybaras are born with fur and open eyes? The babies were born weighing about 1 kg each - that's as heavy as a liter of milk! But when they grow up, they can weigh between 35 kg and 66 kg, so the babies have a long way to go. A caregiver at Longleat Safari Park, Alexa Maultby, said the babies and their mothers are doing well. 'The babies will drink milk from their mothers for about 16 weeks, and they will start eating some plants when they are about a week old,' she explained. Capybaras can start moving and swimming just a few hours after they are born. Alexa said, 'We expect the mothers and babies to spend a lot of time in their special pool. The babies might not be the best swimmers at first, but they will learn quickly.' If the babies have trouble swimming, their mothers will be there to help them. The caregiver said the babies will be able to ride on their mothers' backs in the water at first. Since capybaras are semi-aquatic, they are used to living in water. So, it's very important for the babies to spend time in their special pool. This news can help kids learn more about animals and become more aware of the importance of protecting nature. It can also spark their curiosity about capybaras and their lifestyle.
