## The Big Win of the Golden State Valkyries
On October 31, 2026, the Golden State Valkyries beat the Atlanta Dream 68–63 and became WNBA champions. Winning a championship in only their second season added a new page to history. The Valkyries joined the WNBA in 2025 as the league’s 13th team and set a record in their first season with 23 wins, the most ever for a brand‑new team. In their second season they improved to 32 wins, moved up to second place, and in the playoffs they beat the Dallas Wings and then the champion Las Vegas Aces.

## Why It Matters: A Historic Moment
The Valkyries’ triumph is the first time an expansion (new) team has won the title since the Seattle Storm did it in their fifth season back in 2004. It shows that new teams can become great very quickly. It also sends a "anything is possible" message to young basketball lovers.

## Q&A: Kids’ Curious Questions
**Question:** How can a brand‑new team become champion right away?
**Answer:** If the players, coaches, and managers work together really well, a new team can become strong fast. The Valkyries had experienced players and a great coaching staff, which helped them win.

**Question:** What does "Game 7" mean?
**Answer:** In a best‑of‑seven series, the first team to win three games is ahead, but the series continues until one team wins four games. If both teams win three games each, the seventh game decides the winner. It’s the most exciting game of the series!
