Ladybower Lake is in England’s Derbyshire region. Between 1935 and 1943 it was built to give water to the cities of Derby, Sheffield, Nottingham and Leicester. King George VI opened the lake in 1945. To make the lake, the villages of Derwent and Ashopton were emptied. Their houses, churches and stone homes stayed under the water, so the lake is usually full.

## When Does the Lake Go Low?
Recently, especially in summer, the area got very little rain and the temperatures were high. This quickly lowered the lake’s water. Now the level is about 32 %. That’s far below normal. When the water drops, parts of the old houses and the pump station that sit on the lake bed become visible again.

## Why Is This Important?
This shows how precious water is and why we must protect it. It also gives a chance to learn how people lived in the past and how villages were built. Children can understand how water is stored and what problems happen when it runs low.
