Scotland is famous for its bagpipes, tartan, and now a baby sloth! Atty, the new baby, was born at the Edinburgh Zoo and is the first sloth born in Scotland. Atty was born to six-year-old parents Erica and Nico on Monday, May 11th. Atty was named after the famous broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough, who celebrated his 100th birthday this month. Sir David said that if he could be an animal for a day, he would be a sloth because they sleep a lot and do nothing. Atty will hold onto its mom for six months and will be carried by her. Atty will also be fed by its mom, which will help it learn what's safe to eat. The zoo is very excited about Atty's birth and can't wait for visitors to meet the little sloth. Did you know that sloths are very slow, but they can swim very fast? They can even hold their breath for up to 40 minutes! Sloths sleep for about 15 hours a day, but they're not the sleepiest animals. Sloths can even grow green moss on their fur, which helps them blend in with their surroundings and gives them something to eat.
