Sebastien Pocognoli is the new head coach of Scotland's men's football team. He signed a two‑year contract. He used to play for Belgium as a left‑back defender and earned 13 caps for his country. He played for clubs like West Bromwich Albion and Brighton & Hove Albion in England. After his playing career, he became a coach. His biggest success was with Union Saint‑Gilloise in Belgium. In his first season as senior head coach, he led the club to the Belgian Pro League title, their first league title in 90 years. He also won the Belgian Super Cup and helped the club reach the UEFA Champions League group stages for the first time. He was recently sacked by Monaco in early June after finishing seventh in the French league. He said he learned lessons and will take time to prepare for his next job with calm and determination. He replaced Steve Clarke, who left after Scotland failed to progress from the World Cup group stage. Scotland's fans are famous for their passion, especially during the World Cup in the USA. Pocognoli said he will work with his coaching staff to give Scotland a team to be proud of and build on the success that Steve Clarke already achieved. His first match as Scotland's new manager will be against Slovenia in the UEFA Nations League on 26 September 2026.
