59,000 years ago, a Neanderthal tried to drill into a tooth using a stone tool, possibly one of the oldest examples of dental treatment. Scientists think this discovery is important to understanding how Neanderthals lived and were treated.

Neanderthals were the extinct relatives of modern humans. They might have had toothaches and gotten dental treatment just like us. In a dig in Siberia, Russia, scientists found a 59,000-year-old Neanderthal tooth with a hole drilled into it using a stone tool.
