Great Britain’s Amy Hunt and Dina Asher‑Smith made history at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. They won gold in the mixed 4x100m relay and set a new European record of 39.97 seconds. Hunt became the first athlete to win four gold medals at one European Championship, winning the 100m, 200m, women’s 4x100m and the mixed relay. Dina Asher‑Smith earned her 11th medal, making her the most decorated athlete in European Championships history, beating Poland’s Irena Szewińska. The relay team was made up of Hunt, Asher‑Smith, Jeremiah Azu and Zharnel Hughes. Hunt said she was "over the moon" to finish the race with her friends. Great Britain finished second in the medal table, behind Italy, with nine gold, eight silver and two bronze medals. Other highlights: Georgia Hunter Bell won gold in the 1500m, Matthew Hudson‑Smith became the most decorated male athlete with nine medals, and Zharnel Hughes, with two golds, became Britain’s most successful male athlete with six golds.
