Approximately 700,000 plants, insects, and lichens from Scotland's natural science collections will be digitized as part of a two-year project. This project will be an important step in understanding how biological diversity has changed. The National Museums Scotland (NMS) and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh will work together to create a network to digitize Scotland's natural science collections. This project is being funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). The digitization process involves converting a physical object into a digital image or photograph. This is done by taking high-quality photos of the examples in the collections and adding the information from labels or notebooks to an online database. This project will make Scotland's natural science collections more accessible and will be an important step in understanding how biological diversity has changed.
