Penguins at a zoo in Hampshire are having a blast with their new wave machine, and it is all thanks to a group of kind children! Over one hundred kids, aged between four and eleven, took part in a sponsored swim to raise money for their feathered friends. By swimming 50 metres or more, these amazing swimmers raised over £15,000. Zoo staff explained that the wave machine creates strong currents underwater, which helps the penguins exercise and keeps them happy and healthy. Ten-year-old Ellie, who raised £510 by swimming a whole mile, said it was the perfect challenge. She loves penguins and thought it would be a fun way to help them. Some of the children even got to visit the zoo to see the machine being turned on for the first time. There are 13 Humboldt penguins living at the zoo, and they are now enjoying a much more exciting and active swimming experience. Dan Garrick from the zoo said the machine makes the pool more fun and natural for them. Any extra money raised will go toward making life even better for the penguins.
