## Why Lions Are Special?

In the big grasslands of Kenya, lions live in big family groups called "prides." A pride has one male lion (the king), several female lions (the ladies), and their cubs. But who is in charge? Elmo and Abby Cadabby decide to find the answer while on a safari.

## Elmo and Abby's Safari Adventure

The beloved Sesame Street friends Elmo and Abby Cadabby go to Kenya in the PBS episode "Sesame Street and the Great Elephant Adventure." They hop on a tour bus with a nature guide named Ms. Naserian and head out onto the savanna.

Ms. Naserian shares fun facts about lion prides. Elmo and Abby learn how the male lions called "kings" and the female lions called "ladies" share the work.

## Who Is the Lion King?

The strongest male lion in a pride is known as the "king." The king protects the group, finds food, and keeps peace. The lady lions take care of the daily jobs: they feed the cubs, hunt for food, and help keep the pride together.

Elmo and Abby watch a king lion in action. He competes with other males, while the lady lions respect him. Together they make the pride strong.

## Did You Know?

- Lions live not only in Africa but also in parts of Asia.
- Lady lions are called "ladies" because they are the most active and powerful members of the pride.
- Lions sleep at night and hunt during the day.

## Question & Answer: Kids Ask

**Question:** Why are lions called "kings"?
**Answer:** The king is the strong male lion who protects and leads the pride.

**Question:** How important are the lady lions?
**Answer:** Lady lions are crucial for feeding the pride, caring for cubs, and keeping the group united.

## Lions' Impact on Our World

Lions help keep nature balanced. By hunting, they control the number of other animals, which lets plants grow and gives other creatures space to live. Watching this, Elmo and Abby understand why nature matters.

## Summary and Looking Ahead

Elmo and Abby Cadabby's Kenya safari shows how lion prides work and what the king does. The adventure encourages kids to ask questions, explore, and learn about nature and animals. In the future, children can watch more nature shows, discover different animal lives, and become friends of the Earth.
