In northern Japan, a massive 400-ton wooden tower from Hirosaki Castle was recently moved back to its original spot with the help of thousands of friendly volunteers! This amazing project shows how working together and respecting history can save something truly special. Hirosaki Castle was built way back in 1611, long before the cars and airplanes we see today. But in 2015, a big earthquake shook the ground and damaged the castle's three-storey tower, making it unsafe. To fix it, engineers first had to move the tower 80 metres away. They placed it on special metal rails and moved it to a temporary spot using heavy machines and a lot of careful planning. Now, it is time to move the tower back! About 80 volunteers work together at one time, holding onto ropes and pulling the tower just a few centimetres at a time. It will take about 4,000 volunteers in total to get the job done. Even though the tower is as heavy as 200 cars or 1,000 school buses, the combined strength of all those people helps it move. It is just like moving a small car with a group of friends! A castle is a grand, old building that was once used as a home for kings and queens and to keep people safe. By moving this tower back, we keep the castle's history alive for everyone to see. This teaches us that even the biggest problems can be solved when we work as a team. Kids can help by learning about history and engineering, or by helping with community projects when they grow up. The volunteers will finish their part this week, and machines will handle the rest by November. This story proves that with patience and teamwork, we can take care of our history together!
