You have to look really closely to spot the spot where the rocket crashed! NASA has shared new photos of the Moon's surface, showing the hole, or crater, left behind after a SpaceX rocket bumped into it. The piece of the rocket was about as tall as a five-story building, and scientists say it was zooming along at about 5,400 miles per hour! It hit the Moon on the morning of August 5, but we couldn't see it happen from Earth, and it was perfectly safe for us here. This event gave scientists a cool chance to look at 'before and after' photos to see exactly how the Moon's surface changed. You might have already seen some early pictures from South Korea's Danuri Moon orbiter, but these new ones from NASA show us even more detail. They were taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), and engineers carefully tilted the spacecraft so its camera could get a perfect look at the crater every time it flew by. Scientists think the crater is about 18 meters wide—that is a little less than the length of two school buses—and less than three meters deep. The old rocket piece had been floating through space for over a year before it hit the Moon with the force of three tons of dynamite!
