Like many countries, Portugal has been experiencing hotter, drier weather, leading to massive wildfires. Since 2000, the country has lost about half of its forest cover to these blazes. Two teenagers, Marta Bernardino and Sebastião Mendonça, have come up with an innovative solution — a tree-planting robot called Trovador. The robot can plant saplings 28% faster than humans and has a 90% survival rate. With international recognition and awards, Trovador is being improved to navigate steep slopes and use artificial intelligence to check soil conditions before planting.
